cordes-sur-ciel and…

on a rainy tuesday afternoon go to an ancient city propped on a hill and walk around. we did. and it was beautiful. cordes-sur-ciel is a small town that was built in 1222 by the count of toulouse. a real, live count.

i love quotes, always have, always will. ha. how’s that for a seamless segway. colette, also addicted, opened a few sites for me and i’m pretty sure i’ve lost some sight staring at the computer, scrolling, scrolling, scrolling.

here’s me mashing the two together.

“And the sun and the moon sometimes argue over who will tuck me in at night. if you think i am having more fun than anyone on this planet, you are absolutely correct.” – Hafiz.

“She turned to me & whispered, ‘don’t you just love it when you get so excited you forget to breathe?’ and the thought of her smiling eyes still makes me laugh.” – Brian Andreas

“I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.” – Kurt Vonnegut

“I love the relationship that anyone has with music…because there’s something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out…It’s the best part of us probably…” – Nick Hornby

“You know when you’re sitting on a chair and you lean back so you’re just on two legs then you lean too far and you almost fall over but at the last second you catch yourself? I feel like that all the time.” – Stephen Wright

“Life would be so much easier if I didn’t give a shit, but I do.” – Nick Hornby

“I like to be vital and strong and expressive, and I think that’s more significant than being safe and pretty.” – Juliette Lewis

“I’ve been making a list of the things they don’t teach you at school. They don’t teach you how to love somebody. They don’t teach you how to be famous. They don’t teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don’t teach you how to walk away from someone you don’t love any longer. They don’t teach you how to move on when the one you love walks away from you. They don’t teach you how to know what’s going on in someone else’s mind. They don’t teach you what to say to someone who’s dying. They don’t teach you anything worth knowing.” – Neil Gaiman

“I may still not know what i want to be when i grow up, but i do know that someday i want to live in a house filled with my books and travel souvenirs. And the walls that aren’t covered in bookshelves will be covered with photos of my family and friends. when i leave the house i will be going to a job i love, and i’ll return to a person i love. so, that’s the dream i’m working on.” – Amber Morley

When I discovered YouTube, I didn’t work for five days. I did nothing. I watched Cookie Monster sing Chocolate Rain about a thousand times.” – Michael Scott, The Office

“You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks, or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could’ve, would’ve happened—or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the f#*k on.” – Tupac Shakur

and for one that literally altered my life when i read it…

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself that you tasted as many as you could.” – Louise Erdrich

anytime i copy and paste on some random quote it’s because, regardless of its source, it gives me something. it either makes me laugh or strikes at something deep or makes me want to find the person who has had the exact same thoughts i have had….

…because that is the dream i’m working on. and i am trying to love and risk and feel and be absolutely swallowed up. i do give a shit, fortunately and unfortunately. and if you would have asked me right after colette and i witnessed the worlds most hilarious dance move at 4 am, and subsequently bowled over laughing unable to breathe, i would have said, “yes, i am having more fun than anyone on the planet.” and juliette lewis is right and shoot, i should’ve taken tupac’s advice a long time ago.

and sometimes i’m tasting sweet apples and sometimes i’m just hearing them drop amidst the hurt. but right now, thank the Lord, it is the former. the sweet, sweet, former of rainy afternoons spent in cordes-sur-ciel.
