tim and i had the honor, even more so now, of seeing andy irons surf this summer in the surfer pro at supertubes in jeffreys bay, south africa.
it ended up to be his last run at the world title, which he won three of in his career. he died last week and his funeral will be this sunday at home in hawaii.
he leaves behind his mother, father, brother and 8-months-pregnant wife, due to have their son next month. heart-wrenching.
joel parkinson, a close friend of his, said this,
“i know he died young, but he lived his life to the fullest and what he did in 32 years would take most people 132 years. andy was a king; a king of surfing.”
r.i.p. andy irons.
