ash wednesday marks the first day of lent, a 40-day walk-up to easter.
it is a day of repentance, and is so named because dusting yourself in ashes traditionally signified sorrow over your sins and faults (thank you wikipedia).
lent is a time of sacrifice. and though, in a religious context, that sacrifice is meant for Jesus, it has me thinking about sacrifice in the broadest context.
what can i give up,
what can i do without,
what can i take out?
