i just watched “the kids are all right”
and there’s this scene when the daughter is dropped off for her first day of college. they unload the boxes and get out the sheets, and then have to say goodbye.
there’s these difficult and awkward goodbyes. her mom’s cry, but wave until you can’t see their car anymore.
and the camera pans on the daughters face. her smile locked, but shaking and nervous. her eyes panicked, watching them drive away. she sniffs and after a second, walks out of the picture.
i related so entirely. this turning point where all you want to do is drive off with them, but know there is no bravery in it. and that life changes, and will keep on changing. and it’s largely what you do after they drive away that defines you.
